Lee Simpson is a California based singer-songwriter active mainly in the bluegrass and outlaw country genres. Simpson has deep California bluegrass roots coming from his grandparents and musical family. Simpson was a founding member of the Southern California based aggressive jam band Blue Dye Fire. Years later, he became guitarist and one of the main contributing songwriters for the San Francisco based bluegrass/roots rock band King Harvest. Although both bands released several records under various labels, Simpson found his greatest accomplishments as a solo singer/songwriter, teaming up with John McGaraghan to write and record the album Summertime in California. Simpson began the first of many recorded solo works. Over the years Simpson has toured and performed with various prolific headliners such as Steve Earl, Lucinda Williams, Tedeschi Trucks, Yonder Mountain String Band, Rosanne Cash, and many others. Simpson now enjoys being the frontman and lead songwriter for his new endeavor The Friendly Viking. His focus is on touring the west coast and tying together the finest songwriting he can find! Simpson is a storyteller, a musician, and a healer. In Simpson’s music, you can hear the whispers of a life lived with passion and purpose.
